The Music Library reference section has an amazing collection of music society newsletters, bound and ready to discover. Billy Mayerl is some one whose music I have been listening to lately. A British Gershwin. Famous for his tune “Marigold” the music trips lightly round your ears and makes you feel better. The Magazine, well produced, turns out not just to be about Mayerl, but many of his contemporaries, from Carol Gibbons “On the Air” to William Blezard, known as the accompanist for Joyce Grenfell. I’ve learnt that Mayerl could certainly span an octave. Sadly, my research online also states that the latest issue of the magazine is the last for the foreseeable future. A good editor is hard to find.
